| At the Stage Door: Broadway 'Steps' into January January 6, 2009 - It may be cold outside, but Broadway theatres are heating up with new productions in January. Previews for The American Plan began on January 2 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Mercedes Ruehl stars as a mother in the 1960s intent on controlling her daughter’s life. Mary Louise Parker returns to Broadway in Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler. Previews begin January 6 at the American Airlines Theatre. Soul of Shaolin, an account of a boy raised by Buddhist monks who later becomes a kung fu master, opens for a limited run at the Marquis Theatre on January 15. Will Ferrell treads the boards with You're Welcome America. A Final Night with George W Bush. Previews begin January 20 at the Cort Theatre. Also on January 20, The 39 Steps moves to its new home at the Helen Hayes Theatre.
