REEL 13 Presents 'The Guys'

November 5, 2008 - REEL 13, Channel Thirteen's weekly Saturday night film series, features an emotionally gripping indie about two New Yorkers who try to cope with the tragedy of 9/11.

Based on the play by Anne Nelson, The Guys, premiering on Saturday, November 15 at 10:45 p.m. on REEL 13, is an homage to the New York City firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11. When Fire Captain Nick (Anthony LaPaglia) loses eight men in his company on September 11, he is asked to speak at their funerals. At a loss for words, he seeks the help of Joan, an Upper West Side editor (Sigourney Weaver), whom he meets in a Park Slope brownstone, belonging to Joan's sister. Drawing on his memories about each man, Weaver's character helps Nick compose each eulogy and in the process develops a bond that enables both of them to deal with their loss and their feeling of helplessness.

REEL 13 is Channel Thirteen's weekly movie showcase for classic, short and independent films. Every Saturday night beginning at 9 p.m., viewers can catch a Classic film hosted by Neal Gabler, followed by a Short film selected by visitors to Reel13.org who vote for their favorite of three shorts every week. The evening ends with an Indie film, hosted by Richard Peña, Program Director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center. If you are a filmmaker and would like your short film to be considered for selection, go to Reel13.org to upload your film.
