Lighthouse International Honors Commissioner Oliver

November 5, 2008 - On October 20, Commissioner Katherine Oliver was honored by Lighthouse International at their gala, Light Years: The Lighthouse Salutes the Arts. This event pays tribute to those who are light years ahead in the fields of film, music, interior design and fashion.

Founded in 1905, Lighthouse International is dedicated to preventing and treating vision loss and to empowering people facing its disabling challenges to be independent. Headquartered on East 59th Street, also known as "Lighthouse Way," Lighthouse International is a New York City landmark non-profit institution that has pioneered vision care and rehabilitation services, research, professional education, and advocacy programs that enhance the quality of life for people with impaired vision – from newborns to the elderly.

The other 2008 honorees at Light Years included fashion icon Iris B. Apfel; interior designer Mario Buatta; and performer, actor, and ambassador of The Great American Songbook Michael Feinstein. The Corporate Visionary Award was presented to IBM for their civic and philanthropic commitments. The gala was held at Cipriani 42nd Street.
