The City that Never Sleeps Voted the World's Most Cinematic City

October 20, 2008 - Sky Movies HD today announced that New York City has been voted by the British public as the most spectacular film location city in the world. London and Rio De Janeiro came joint second, followed by Paris.

Sky Movies commissioned ComRes to survey over 1000 British film fans, including film location managers and cinematographers, to ask them which city they thought is the most spectacular film location in the world.

“There’s no place like New York City, and for more than 100 years, every corner of our great city – from the Brooklyn Promenade to the Upper West Side - has had its turn in the spotlight,” said Commissioner Katherine Oliver, New York City Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting. “Films like Sex and the City and the soon to be released Doubt not only add to our rich cinematic history, but also serve as a postcard, inviting tourists from around the world to experience the New York they’ve seen on screen.”

“From the results it’s fairly clear that a great film city is a mixture of iconic locations and personality," said Ian Lewis, Director of Sky Movies and Sky Box Office. “The winner, New York, mixes instantly recognisable architecture, an excitingly diverse population - with a unique character - and the gritty realism of its sometimes mean streets. It’s no wonder directors, such as Woody Allen in Manhattan, pay such loving homage to the Big Apple.”
