New York Filmmakers Have a 'Point'

September 2, 2008 - Two New York filmmakers, both working mothers, have found a way to start a conversation about a social justice issue that has lain dormant for over forty years. What’s Your Point, Honey? – the new documentary written, produced, and directed by Amy Sewell (Mad Hot Ballroom) and Susan Toffler (The Cost of Living) examines society to ascertain the current social and political status of the women’s movement by looking to the future.

In recent months, as the nation discussed not if but when a woman would be elected president, Sewell and Toffler decided to take the discussion to the next level to determine how young women view themselves in today’s political world. The film follows seven diverse young women, who aspire to one day lead the country.

Seven applicants were chosen out of thousands and placed in high-powered summer internships in various professions and industries in New York City by Cosmo!Girl magazine in a "contest" called Project 2024. The plan is that by the year 2024, these young women will grace the presidential debate podiums.

What’s Your Point, Honey? introduces the contenders from last year, putting a face on leadership and the possibilities coming down the pipeline while revealing the obstacles these young women still face today. Two other age groups, teens and tweens, weave in and out of the story to add their generations' take on the topic.

The DVD, which is currently available for purchase, can be used as an educational tool for teaching all levels of grades from 5th grade to college level students. To learn more about the documentary and view the trailer, click here.
