Film Festival Screens for 'Urban' Setting

September 2, 2008 - The Urbanworld Film Festival Presented by BET kicks off its 12th year with honorary chair Queen Latifah. Dedicated to the exhibition of independent and mainstream cinema by and about people of color, Urbanworld will screen eighty-five films at this year’s festival, which runs from September 10-14.

Urbanworld is the largest international competitive festival of its kind, redefining the film festival landscape with its fresh and necessary approach to spreading the voices of a multicultural world. The five-day festival includes feature, documentary, and short film screenings, as well as panel discussions and live staged screenplay readings.

Among this year’s selections is Wu: The Story of the Wu Tang Clan, directed by Gerald Barclay, a gritty documentary that traces the history of the eclectic hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, which emerged from the slums of Staten Island in 1993 and took the music world by storm.

All festival screenings will be held at the AMC Loews 34th Street Theaters. Visit www.urbanworld.org  for more information.
