Spend Summer at the Theatre

July 2, 2008
- The summer months offer many choices for local theatre-goers.

SPF
Eight playwrights will showcase their work at the Public Theater during the month of July as the Summer Play Festival kicks off its fifth year. Since 2004, SPF has produced 450 performances of original new plays and musicals from emerging writers. SPF provides full financial and production support at no cost to the artists, and tickets for every performance are only $10. Visit www.spfnyc.com/ for a complete schedule, description of the productions, and tickets.

NY International Fringe Festival
The NY International Fringe Festival doesn’t begin until August which means there’s plenty of time to learn all about it. The largest multi-arts festival in North America, FringeNYC boasts more than 200 companies from all over the world performing for 16 days in more than 20 venues. Tickets go on sale July 28. For more information, visit www.fringenyc.org.

Broadway Bound
Featuring contortionists, aerialists, and trapeze artists, Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy swung into the Broadway Theatre last month for two months of performances.

[title of show] begins previews at the Lyceum Theatre on July 5 and tells the story of how the show-within-a-show made its way to Broadway.

City Center Encores! presents Damn Yankees during the month of July. Sean Hayes, Jane Krakowski, and Cheyenne Jackson headline the cast in the classic musical depicting one devoted baseball fan’s deal with the devil.
