'Tyra,' 'Rachael' Take Home the Gold for NYC Shows

June 23, 2008 - New York City-based talk shows were honored at the 35th Daytime Emmys as “Rachael Ray” won the Emmy for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show and “The Tyra Banks Show” won for Outstanding Informative Talk Show.

The Daytime Emmys were handed out at a pair of bi-coastal ceremonies that took place over the past two weeks – the Creative Arts & Entertainment Awards were presented on June 13 at Lincoln Center in New York while the Entertainment Emmys were given out on June 20 at the Kodak Theatre in LA.

Regis Philbin was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for his contributions to more than forty years in television, including serving as host on “Live with Regis and Kelly” for the past twenty years.

Other New York winners included: “Good Morning America” for Outstanding Morning Program, “Sesame Street” for Outstanding Pre-School Children’s Series, and “Cash Cab” for Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show.

All four local daytime drama series were among the winners as well. Gina Tognoni and Tom Pelphrey from “Guiding Light” won Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series, respectively. The series also won for Achievement in Live & Direct to Tape Sound Mixing and Music Direction and Composition for a Drama Series.

Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series went to Jennifer Landon from “As the World Turns.” The show also won for Outstanding Achievement in Makeup and Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design for a Drama Series.

“One Life to Live” was honored with Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series Directing Team, Writing Team, Costume Design, Lighting Direction, and Original Song. “All My Children” received the Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Technical Direction/Electronic Camera/Video Control for a Drama Series.

In addition, “The View” won two Emmys for Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling and for Outstanding Special Class Writing.
