NYC Celebrates the Internet with Weeklong Festival

May 20, 2008 - New York City hosts the first-ever Internet Week New York this June as the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences brings together an eclectic lineup of innovators in fields ranging from online advertising to Internet art for the City’s upcoming celebration of the Internet industry and community.

The weeklong festival of events will take place in venues throughout the city – from The Times Center and The New Museum to the Brooklyn Public Library and The Canal Room. Kicking off on June 3rd, Internet Week New York will culminate with the 12th Annual Webby Awards Celebration from June 8th to 10th.

Organizations presenting events during the festival run the gamut of digital media ranging from cultural institutions, like The Museum of the Moving Image, to technology companies, like Google.

“Internet Week New York is a celebration of the energy, diversity, and creativity that are a hallmark of both New York City and the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, chairman, Internet Week New York. "It’s a unique opportunity for New Yorkers to meet the companies, organizations, and innovators that are creating the future of online media.”

Highlights of the schedule include:

The 12th Annual Webby Awards Celebration – Ending Internet Week New York with a bang, the “Oscars of the Internet” celebrate online excellence with three days of entertainment and industry events, including two star-studded awards galas featuring The Webby Awards’ famous five-word acceptance speeches.

Werner Herzog in conversation with Jonathan Demme - Director Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) will interview Werner Herzog (Rescue Dawn) about his pioneering work as a fiction and documentary filmmaker to mark the launch of the Museum of the Moving Image's new website, MovingImage Source.

2008 Advertising 2.0 Conference - A forum to chart the future of global media, advertising, and branding, presented by Advertising Age and Digital Hollywood.

Conversational Marketing Summit – Joining Internet Week New York for its first East Coast edition, the Summit will bring together the most cutting-edge minds in the online marketing industry. Presented by Federated Media, which was founded by Wired co-founder John Battelle.

Net Aesthetics 2.0 - A panel of leading artists, critics and curators that will take stock of the current state of internet art and contemplate the challenges faced by a field that straddles contemporary art and creative technology. Presented by Rhizome.org and the New Museum.
