January 2, 2008 - REEL 13, debuting January 5, 2008, is a film showcase for classic, short, and independent films seen weekly on Channel Thirteen. In addition to regular offerings of classic and independent films, amateur, professional and aspiring filmmakers now have the opportunity to submit their work for possible broadcast on air.

Filmmakers can visit REEL 13’s new website – www.reel13.org – to submit their films and take part in this interactive online film competition. Selected clips will be posted to REEL 13’s website allowing viewers to vote on their favorite. The film with the most votes each week will be broadcast on Saturday night, and the filmmaker will receive a $500 award.

During each week’s Saturday-night broadcast, knowledgeable hosts – taped at locations around town – will add to the experience, giving viewers insight into the films and celebrating New York’s unique place in the world of cinema.

REEL 13’s site will also give cinema fans a comprehensive forum for screening, blogging, critiquing, exchanging ideas, and learning about film.
