City Bus Shelters Ready for the "New" Year

January 2, 2008 - Three very different projects were showcased in 153 city bus shelters in the month of December, but they all shared a common theme – they’re all “Made in NY.”

Posters for the new Fox show “New Amsterdam” could be seen throughout the five boroughs in December. “New Amsterdam” follows an enigmatic New York City detective with a profound secret: he’s immortal, cursed since the days when he was a Dutch soldier in the colony of New Amsterdam. He cannot age until he finds his one true love. The Fox show, which is filmed on location in the city, is scheduled to premiere in March.

“Want a Job in TV and Film” aims to attract New Yorkers looking for entry-level positions in the city’s production industry. Partnering with Brooklyn Workforce Innovations, the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting has created a free, four week training program for production assistants. Graduates of the program have gone on to work for “Law & Order” and Sex and the City: The Movie.

Designed to replicate the look of the classic MPAA ratings systems, public service announcements combating the creation, distribution, and sale of illegally recorded films were also on display in city bus shelters. With ratings like “SP” for Stupid Purchase and “OV” for Obstructed Views, the posters highlight the poor quality of pirated films and the loss of money to the city’s economy.
