“Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”
Saturday Night Live has been broadcast from New York City since 1975. The show, which is shot at Studio 8H in NBC Studios, is both the highest-rated and longest-running late night show in television history.

Regis’ Record
On August 20, 2004, Regis Philbin broke the record for logging the most hours on U.S. television of any person in history. He has spent more than 15,188 hours on the air, the prime of which has been shot in New York City. Live with Regis and Kelly has been shot live from ABC studios in Manhattan since 1989.

Bilingual Broadcaster Breaks Records
New York City is home to the highest-rated Spanish language radio show in the United States. The morning radio program El Vacilón de la Mañana is broadcast on La Mega WSKQ/97.9 FM and hosted by Luis Jimenez, who currently has a film project based on the show in production in New York City.

Big Apple is Big Hit for Bollywood
The Bollywood film Kal Ho Naa Ho was shot in New York City in 2003, and has proceeded to become the fourth-highest grossing Indian film of all time. The film took the Prix du Public Award at the Valenciennes Film Festival in France, won thirteen awards at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards in Singapore, received three Zee Cine awards in Dubai, and appeared in the Berlin International Film Festival. Back home in India, Kal Ho Naa Ho broke all records for box office presale and won eight Filmfare Awards, four Screen Weekly Awards and nine Sansui awards. The screenplay, which was written by Karan Johar, has become the first Indian film to be archived in the library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

2002 Box office champions
In 2002, three of the Top Ten US box office champions came from New York: Spider-Man, Men in Black II, and Ice Age. The total domestic box office for these three films was $770.5 million.

Law & Order is a NYC star
NBC's Law & Order is the longest running drama series on primetime television. It holds the Emmy record for consecutive Outstanding Drama Series nominations. And it films entirely in New York! Three additional Law & Order hit dramas, Special Victims Unit, Criminal Intent and Trial By Jury, also film entirely in New York.

Sopranos dominates US screens
HBO's The Sopranos is the most watched original program on pay/subscription cable. It is also the most watched original program on free cable. And it's based in New York! Even though it is only available to homes with subscription service to HBO, more cable watchers tune in to The Sopranos than any other original program anywhere on cable.

The MOFTB is born
On June 15th, 1966, New York Mayor John V. Lindsay signed Executive Order 10, establishing the Mayor's Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting to encourage production in New York City. It was the first film agency of its kind anywhere in the world.

First film screening in the US
The first projected motion pictures ever seen in the United States were shown on the night of April 23rd, 1906 at Koster and Bial's vaudeville house, on the site of today's Macy's department store. Thomas Edison himself helped run the projector.
