Andy Nagy, NYC Housing Authority
July 1, 2005 – As a media services technician at the New York City Housing Authority, Andy Nagy coordinates film and television shoots at the Authority’s properties throughout the five boroughs. The Housing Authority, a federally funded agency which provides affordable housing to low-income New Yorkers, offers producers a variety of affordable properties, including apartments, playgrounds, basketball courts, rooftops, walkways and large, multi-purpose community centers.
Nagy performed freelance grip work for film and television before taking his position at the Housing Authority two and a half years ago. He now coordinates a diverse variety of shoots, which have recently included providing an apartment for a UNICEF commercial directed by Spike Lee, and a residential development in the Bronx for Finding Forrester, which constructed an outdoor set on a Housing Authority parking lot.
For Nagy, New York City is an ideal location because “you’re shooting in the real world, not recreating it. It is a place where people are actually living, and things are happening around you.”
“The Housing Authority can provide properties in a variety of different settings and developments, from the northernmost Bronx to Staten Island,” Nagy said. “There are plenty of sights available, and we try to accommodate production company requests as best we can.”
