November 1, 2005 - Matt Miller has been helping commercial production companies spotlight New York for the past 11 years. As President and CEO of the Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP), he represents commercial production companies within both the industry and the public sector. Currently, more than 60 AICP members have offices in New York.
Miller broke into the industry selling radio advertising for a Connecticut station before serving as director of member services at the Association of National Advertisers. In his current position, he is most proud of strengthening the stature of the AICP and growing the association’s annual awards show at the MoMA. The show, which garners international recognition for excellence in commercial production, premieres in New York City each June, before going on to tour the world.
Recently, New York City hosted Advertising Week, an industry gathering which included seminars, panels, public exhibits, meetings, conferences and events. Visit www.advertisingweek.com for more information.
“New York City is the epicenter of the advertising industry,” Miller, who is based here, said. “There’s a certain energy to shooting in New York, an experienced crew base because of cross-pollination with other media, and of course the City’s locations and the industry’s history with the city. You can’t double the experience of shooting in New York.”
Miller emphasizes the ways in which the commercial production industry supports the city’s economy and benefits the local community. Following September 11, the industry formed the “We love NY” coalition to bolster the City’s economy, and commercial producers regularly underwrite public service announcements for a variety of social causes.
