Ken Konfong: "On the Waterfront"

December 1, 2004 - Ken Konfong, Assistant Vice President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC), handles requests for filming on the waterfront. Mr. Konfong coordinates film shoots at a number of City-owned locations managed by EDC, including Fulton Ferry Landing, South Street Seaport, esplanades along the East River, Sunset Park and Bush Terminal.

Mr. Konfong’s most popular location is the Fulton Ferry Landing, under the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge. “The Landing is perfect for capturing downtown buildings with the Brooklyn Bridge and the waterfront in a single shot,” Mr. Konfong said. “It offers some of the prettiest panoramic shots of the City.” The location is especially a favorite among commercials and news organizations looking for beauty shots of the City.

One of Mr. Konfong’s most ambitious projects was the movie Two Weeks Notice, for which the Fulton Ferry Landing pier was made to become an extension of the River Café for a gala banquet scene. The production company simulated a carnival along the Landing and shot a dummy out of a cannon across the pier. Mr. Konfong also assisted Law and Order with staging complicated crime scenes on the river.

For Mr. Konfong, the best part of the job is the opportunity to showcase the beauty of New York City. “New York is a model urban landscape in its architecture, economy, citizens and businesses, and it is incredible to have a role in sharing and promoting our City,” he said.

His team at EDC is led by Executive Vice President Tanya K. Tesa and Senior Vice President Lee Benedict, and also includes Project Manager Denise Motta. For more information about filming at these locations, contact Mr. Konfong at 212-312-3618.
