City Scribes Steal Spotlight
December 15, 2005 The Writer’s Guild of America has recognized numerous New York City productions with nominations for the organization’s Television and Radio Awards. The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting joins the WGA in applauding our City’s nominees.

December 14, 2005 The "Made in NY" productions The Producers and The Squid and the Whale have both taken multiple nominations for the 2006 Golden Globes.


Mayor and “Project Runway” Rally for Garment Industry
December 12, 2005 Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Heidi Klum, host and executive producer of Bravo’s Emmy-nominated series "Project Runway," announced today that dresses designed during the current second season of the Weinstein Company and Miramax Television co-production, will be available for auction at http://projectrunway.auction.shopthescene.com on the day after each episode and 50% of the proceeds will be dedicated to supporting the activities of the Garment Industry Development Corporation (GIDC). GIDC is a non-profit organization that works to improve the strength of the City’s textile and apparel industry.

XBOX Commercial ‘Jumps in’ to NYC
December 1, 2005 An XBOX commercial which shot in New York City this September encourages viewers to “Jump in.” With the theme that anyone can play the game, the commercial features 50 people from a variety of ages and walks of life – including Detroit Piston basketball star Ben Wallace – double dutch jump roping, spinning the ropes and even going over the ropes on a bike! The production shot in one take on HD, at the Broome Street municipal parking lot on Ludlow Street.


NYC Productions are ‘Awake,’ ‘Spinning’ and ‘Delirious’
December 1, 2005 New York City’s “Made in NY” incentive program continues to attract productions in large volumes to the City, with more than $500 million in new business so far this year, which has created jobs for more than 6,000 New Yorkers. Productions currently around town include:


“Made in NY” Discount Card Expands to Music & Beyond
December 1, 2005 The “Made in NY” discount card, which is available to all productions for the length of their New York City shoots, has expanded to include more than 400 vendors offering discounts across all five boroughs to lower the cost of production.


Mayor Announces Partnership to Bring Entertainment & Culture to New Yorkers
December 1, 2005 Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today announced today that four City agencies and 96.3 FM WQXR, New York’s classical radio station, have created a year-long partnership to promote the City’s cultural events, destinations and history through ongoing features and programming spotlighting the City’s cultural life.


Hairspray Brings Middle Schoolers to Broadway
December 1, 2005 On October 25, the producers of Hairspray teamed with Camp Broadway to offer a special evening on Broadway for New York City public middle school teachers, which included dinner, a ticket to the show, a question and answer session with the cast following the show, and a preview of some of the theatre workshops Camp Broadway has available for middle school students. Following the event, teachers had the opportunity to return with their students to see performances of the Broadway hit at special rates for the students.


Great White Way’s “Extra” Performances to Benefit the Actors' Fund
December 1, 2005 Each year, every Broadway show does an “extra” performance as a benefit for the Actors’ Fund of America, a nonprofit organization that supports the essential needs of entertainment professionals in theatre, film, television, music, opera, and dance.
