New Line Cinema "Elves" Deliver Holiday Gifts to New York City Child Care Centers as Part of "Elf Day"
November 7, 2003 As part of "Elf Day," declared by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on Friday, November 7, 2003, New Line Cinema donated a total of 200 toys to 6 City-funded child care centers across the five boroughs. This project was coordinated by the NYC Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting, in association with New Line Cinema and the Administration for Children's Services. The feature film "Elf" shot for 2 weeks in New York City and spent $4.5 million on location. It opened nation wide in theatres on Friday, "Elf Day."


Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg Declares Friday, November 7 "Elf Day" in New York City
November 6, 2003 At an appearance on NBC's "Today" show this morning, Mayor Bloomberg declared Friday, November 7 "Elf Day" in New York City. New Line Cinema's holiday film "Elf", which shot partially in New York City, premiered in the City as Loews Astor Plaza on Sunday, November 2 and opens wide in area theatres on Friday, November 7.


Mayor Bloomberg Assembles First Entertainment Summit
October 31, 2003 On September 30, 2003, Mayor Bloomberg and Commissioner Katherine Oliver of the NYC Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting held the first Entertainment Summit at Gracie Mansion, to address issues related to stimulating more entertainment production in New York City.


Latin Media & Entertainment Commission
October 31, 2003 On Wednesday October 28, 2003, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced appointments to the New York City Latin Media and Entertainment Commission. The Latin Media & Entertainment Commission will work with the Mayor's Office to create and execute a strategy to position New York City as a global capital for the Latin media and entertainment industry.


PEP For New York
October 31, 2003 Production Expo Plus, New York's newest trade exhibition for the entertainment production industry, debuted on October 30 at the Javits Center and ran through November 1, 2003.


Stay in New York!
October 31, 2003 The feature film "Stay" directed by Marc Forster recently concluded two weeks of work on the Brooklyn Bridge. The film stars Ewan McGregor, Naomi Watts, Ryan Gosling, Elizabeth Reaser, Kate Burton, Janeane Garafalo and B.D. Wong.

Relighting of Necklace Lights for East River Bridges
October 31, 2003 Today Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced that the Necklace Lights on the City's Four East River Bridges would be relit thanks to the generosity of four New York businesses.


The Violet Hour at the Biltmore Theatre
October 31, 2003 On October 15, 2003, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg inaugurated the reopening of the Biltmore Theatre, which had been vacant since 1987 due to extensive structural and cosmetic damage.


MOFTB Unveils New Location Initiatives for Film & Television Production
October 8, 2003 At a reception at Bridgewaters restaurant this evening, Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the NYC Mayor's Office of Film Theatre & Broadcasting announced a new locations service available to film and television productions, and unveiled new/underutilized locations within the five boroughs.
