December 1, 2005 - New York City’s production industry is expanding, and so are its production facilities! At 208 West 30th Street, Kralyevich Productions, Inc (KPI), an independent production company which supplies programming for clients including the History Channel, HGTV and Court TV, has added 10 editing suites on a new floor, totaling over 2,000 square feet. Five of the new edit suites have HD capability: two Final Cut Pros, an Avid Express Pro HD and two Avid Adrenalines. The non-HD suites feature Avid Adrenaline workstations. Other equipment in the suites includes six Sony Beta decks, eight Sony DV decks, five Mackie mixers, and one Digidesign mixer.
“We’ve expanded our editing facilities to accommodate the high volume of work we’ve been shooting in and around Manhattan,” said Vinnie Kralyevich, president and creative director, KPI. “We were confident that we could add additional edit suites—space being a precious commodity in the city— and keep them filled year-round.”
Down on 18th Street, Production Central recently opened a second soundstage on Broadway, where the feature film “Feel,” starring Billy Baldwin, Michael Rapaport and Chris Klein, begins production today! Over the past two years, Production Central has tripled the size of their space to about 5,000 square feet. The facility offers two soundstages with equipment including HDV and 24p cameras, digibeta and DVC-Pro 50 decks, lights, and G-5 FCP's.
“A common thread between [our clients] is they want to be in New York City, whether it's for the atmosphere, the backgrounds, the audiences, the business, the food, whatever!,” David Fuhrer, President of Production Central, Inc. said. “New York has so much to offer.”
And over on Fifth Avenue, the Sound Lounge recently added a new HD 5.1 audio mixing theater, giving Sound Lounge nine mixing studios at its headquarters at 149 Fifth Avenue and three more at its affiliate, Twist Audio, in Soho. The new mixing theater was designed specifically for feature films, documentaries and television series and features a Digidesign ICON integrated console, combining tracking, editing and mixing functions in one platform. The theater is also supported by stand-alone sound and picture editing rooms and an ADR/Foley stage.
“The facility we have created … was designed specifically for the kind of filmmakers who work here [in New York],” Sound Lounge principal Tom Jucarone said.
New York City continues to see expanding production business thanks to the “Made in NY” incentive program, which has brought over $500 million in new film and television projects to our City since January.
