December 1, 2010 - Jersey Boys, the Tony
Award-winning musical, recently celebrated its fifth anniversary on Broadway,
and to mark the occasion, Commissioner Katherine Oliver of the Mayor’s Office of
Media and Entertainment presented the show with a proclamation on behalf of
Mayor Bloomberg, naming Sunday, November 7 as Jersey Boys
Day.
The proclamation read, in part: “The more than 2.5 million people
who have come to see Jersey Boys are…proof of theatre’s continuing
relevance and vitality. Today, I join with all New Yorkers in giving Jersey
Boys a standing ovation in honor of this important
milestone.”
Jersey Boys is the story of Frankie Valli and The
Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi, a group of
blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks who became one of the biggest
American pop music sensations of all time. The New York production of Jersey
Boys, which opened to critical acclaim on Sunday, November 6, 2005, remains
among Broadway’s top selling musicals and is the longest running show in the
history of the August Wilson Theatre, where it has played over 2,000
performances.
