November 13, 2006 - The New York City Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting announced today that "Made in NY" officially licensed products are now available throughout the City.
The availability of the "Made in NY" collection -- including long and short-sleeved tees, fashionable hoodies, pants, men’s t-shirts and, for “Made in NY” babies, onesies -- is the first in a series of announcements regarding the sale of officially licensed City merchandise from NYC Marketing, the City’s official office for marketing, licensing and advertising.
The branded clothing product line has been developed, styled and produced by New York Popular Inc., an apparel manufacturer located in Brooklyn and one of the City of New York’s official apparel licensees, and is now available for purchase at the official online shop of New York City and a variety of upscale retailers. Macy’s Herald Square is anchoring the collection with an offering of all styles. Additional retailers include The CBS Store; The CityStore, the official store of the City of New York; cultural institutions such as the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Museum of Modern Art and New York Public Library; and upscale hotels such as Le Parker Meridien.
The “Made in NY” logo is an official Mark of distinction developed by the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, which recognizes films, television shows, commercials, music videos, still photography and theatrical productions that do at least 75 percent of their production in New York City. The logo has been used in the end credits of productions including the television shows "All My Children," "Kidnapped" and the entire "Law & Order" series, and films including Fur, Little Children and The Producers.
The logo is part of the “Made in NY” program, which includes a tax credit, free advertising and vendor discounts designed to attract productions to New York City. In 2005, the program created $1.5 billion in revenue and 10,000 jobs for the City of New York.
“There is no better time to launch our apparel collection which celebrates production in New York City than right now as we celebrate the agency’s 40th anniversary amidst a renaissance of film, television and commercial production throughout the City’s five boroughs,” said Commissioner Katherine Oliver. “Here in New York, our entertainment industry employs 100,000 New Yorkers and contributes $5 billion to our economy annually. We are thrilled that, with the release of these products, people around the world will join us in celebrating the thousands of films, television shows, commercials, music videos and theatre projects made each year in New York City, the entertainment capital of the world.”
