December 1, 2005 - The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting’s November marketing campaign promoted the IFP Gotham Awards and Montel Williams Show.
Produced by the Independent Feature Project (IFP), the Gotham Awards annually recognize excellence within the independent film community. At the 15th annual Gotham Awards held in New York City on November 30, the “Celebrate New York” award was presented to the award-winning “Made in NY” documentary Mad Hot Ballroom, which tells the story of a diverse group of eleven year old New York City children learning about life and ballroom dancing. The event was chaired by Sheila Nevins, who worked with the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting to bring HBO’s Taxicab Confessions back to New York, and Bob Yari of the Yari Film Group, which recently shot Hoax here in New York. New York filmmaker Jim Jarmusch received a tribute at the Awards. Tune in to see the Awards on NYC TV, channel 74, on Tuesday December 6 from 9-11 pm, with encores on December 8 and December 10 during the same timeslot.
The Montel Williams show has been shooting in New York City for 15 years, and in 1996 received a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host.
The co-branded bus shelter advertisements are part of the “Made in NY” incentive program’s marketing credit, which leverages the City’s assets to provide free advertising on bus shelters throughout the five boroughs to qualifying productions. Click here for more information.
