November 2, 2009 - The “Made in NY” Production Assistant Training Program recently added twelve new certified PAs to its ranks during a ceremony that took place on Friday, October 16 at Brooklyn Workforce Innovations. One hundred ninety-seven PAs have now been trained through the program, which was developed in partnership between MOFTB and BWI, since its inception.

“Four years ago, who would have known this program would make such a mark on the industry,” said Katy Finch, the program director, addressing the graduates and family and friends who had gathered to celebrate the occasion.

“Each and every one of you has such special talents that are in demand out there,” noted Sky Dietrich, the program’s retention specialist.

Jennifer Lenihan, MOFTB’s director of client relations and community outreach, reminded the PAs of their significant role on set. As the face of the production, she stressed the importance of always being polite and courteous when interacting with residents to help ensure that local neighborhoods stay film friendly.

Several of the PAs also took the opportunity to speak and share thoughts on their experience going through the training. Juan Rodriguez likened the certification ceremony to the end of a movie where you wonder what’s going to happen next. “But this is only the beginning [for us],” he said.

Other PAs expressed the pride they felt in being able to call their fellow PAs their family and how lucky they feel to be a part of the program.

“This program teaches you how to get to your ultimate goal,” said Ivan Castillo, who wants to be a DP one day.

Tsahay Burton added, “My life is just rejuvenated.”
