WANTED: Developers, Tenants for East 125th Street Corridor


The Proposed 125th Street Development Area

November 1, 2006 - The New York City Economic Development Corporation is seeking proposals for the redevelopment of close to six acres in East Harlem. The project, which is referred to as the “East 125th Street Development,” hopes to promote the local economy, encourage private investment, and improve the overall quality of life for East Harlem residents.

The East 125th Street Development is expected to be a dynamic retail, residential, cultural, entertainment and media destination for upper Manhattan. When complete, the project will include up to 300,000 square feet of media executive, and creative office, production and post-production space; 30,000 square feet of not-for-profit performing, visual and media arts space; up to 300,000 square feet of national anchor retail; 120,000 square feet of specialty retail and cinemas and potentially a hotel of up to 100,000 square feet. For members of the community interested in leasing space in the East 125th Street Development project, a question and answer session will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 3pm at the NYCEDC’s Office, located at 110 Williams Street, 4th Floor. Those who wish to attend the meeting can contact Anifia Binns at (212) 618-5721 or abinns@nycedc.com before Friday, November 10th at 4pm. If you are not able to attend, but have questions or are interested in leasing space and would like to share your contact information with potential respondents to the RFP, please e-mail E125Development@nycedc.com by November 13 at 5pm. The questions will be asked and answers to those questions will be available on the NYCEDC website via a transcript of the meeting. A shared information spreadsheet will also be created and distributed to those who choose to share contact information.

To ensure that a diverse group of New Yorkers have access to job opportunities created by the booming film and television industry, the City has convened the Task Force on Diversity in Film, Television, and Commercial Production. The task force will identify existing programs and develop new goals to promote the recruitment of women, veterans, persons of color, and economically disadvantaged New Yorkers to the film and television industry.
