Mayor Bloomberg Assembles First Entertainment Summit

October 31, 2003 On September 30, 2003, Mayor Bloomberg and Commissioner Katherine Oliver of the NYC Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting held the first Entertainment Summit at Gracie Mansion, to address issues related to stimulating more entertainment production in New York City. 80 local executives drawn from film, television and commercial production, labor and facilities were in attendance. Based on the results of a recent canvassing of the production industry, a panel of local professionals led discussions focusing on three topics: costs, facilities/studios, and incentives. Ron Bozman, Executive Producer, Scott Rudin Productions, Dick Wolf, Executive Producer, Law & Order, John Hadity, Executive Vice President, Production Finance, Miramax and Daniel Mahoney, Business Representative, IATSE International sat on the panel. Attendees were encouraged to discuss their experiences and brainstorm solutions for raising New York's competitive advantage by focusing on these three critical areas. Other summit attendees included Les Moonves, President and CEO of CBS Entertainment, Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman and CEO of Sony Corporation, Michael Lynne, President and CEO of New Line.
