October 1, 2003 On Sunday, September 21, New York captured seven Emmy awards at the 55th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, held by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The Sopranos took the lion’s share of honors, for Lead Actor James Gandolfini, Lead Actress Edie Falco and Supporting Actor Joe Pantoliano, and for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart captured awards for Outstanding Comedy Series and Writing for a Comedy Program, and the 56th Annual Tony Awards took the Outstanding Directing award for a Variety Program.
