
October 1, 2009 - Continuing through October is the New York Music Theatre Festival. A New York favorite, NYMF has debuted over 175 new musicals. Many of these musicals that have become hits on and off Broadway, entertaining crowds in almost every state and over a dozen countries. Notable NYMF alumni includes the Tony Award-winning musical Next to Normal, currently playing on Broadway; NYMF 2004 hit [title of show], which enjoyed a Tony Award-nominated run last season; and Altar Boyz, now in its fifth year Off-Broadway.
“More than 50 different shows, concerts, and special events will go up at the Festival – over 250 performances in total, spanning every conceivable style, theme, and genre from punk rock romantic comedies to folk-inflected historical dramas,” said Isaac Robert Hurwitz, NYMF executive director and producer. “We’ll have shows by Broadway veterans and by complete newcomers, from native New Yorkers and from teams as far away as Mexico City, Nairobi, and Seoul – in Spanish, Swahili, and Korean, no less.”
