September 23, 2005 - Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting (MOFTB) declared today as “Little Manhattan Day” in New York City, in recognition of the film Little Manhattan’s contributions to the City. Commissioner Oliver presented the proclamation to filmmakers Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett, in a ceremony attended by cast members Cynthia Nixon, Josh Hutcherson and Charlie Ray. Following the proclamation, the MOFTB and film gave away “Made in NY” stickers, passes to screenings of the film, organic popcorn from Fairway Market, and treats from Dylan’s Candy Bar at the base of Central Park at Columbus Circle, a location featured prominently in the film.
New York City is the most romantic place in the world - even if you're only 10 years old and falling in love for the first time. That's what young Gabe discovers as he pursues the object of his affections, his classmate Rosemary, in Little Manhattan. The romantic comedy is about life, love and the Big Apple, as seen through the eyes of a fifth-grader.
Little Manhattan shot in New York City from May - August 2004, employing over 100 cast and crew members, and will be released in theaters on September 30, 2005. The film shot on the Upper West Side, West Village, and Central Park, where 24 live sheep were brought into the sheep meadow for the first time since the 1930's for the production.
“We are thrilled that Little Manhattan has cast ‘big’ Manhattan as a character in this film,” Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, said. “New York City’s production industry employs 100,000 New Yorkers and contributes $5 billion to the City’s economy on an annual basis. Watch for the ‘Made in NY’ logo, which appears in the film and certifies it was shot right here in the entertainment capital of the world.”
Directed by Mark Levin and written by Jennifer Flackett, Little Manhattan was produced by Gavin Polone and Arnon Milchan, and stars Josh Hutcherson, Charlie Ray, Bradley Whitford, and Cynthia Nixon.
