September 13, 2005 - The Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting yesterday hosted a reception at the Toronto International Film Festival, to showcase New York City's incentives for the production industry to a premier international audience, and attract more international business to the City. The reception was sponsored by Continental Airlines and held at the Spoke Club from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.
At the reception, the City presented the "Made in NY" incentive program, which has made it more attractive than ever for film and television productions to shoot in New York City. “New York City has always offered producers the finest crews, richest talent pool and unparalleled locations,” Commissioner Katherine Oliver said. “Now, with the ‘Made in NY’ incentive program, which offers a fifteen percent tax credit, free advertising and vendor discounts, there is no reason not to ‘make it in New York’.”
The incentives are designed to retain and attract film and television projects to the City, which sustain 4,000 local businesses and 100,000 New Yorkers who make a living in the industry. The incentives have attracted over $500 million in production business to the City since January, creating jobs for more than 6,000 New Yorkers. New York City's entertainment industry contributes $5 billion to the City’s economy on an annual basis.
The following films shot in NYC are showing at the festival:
Sorry, Haters
The Notorious Bettie Page
Brooklyn Lobster
One Last Thing
Angel
Transamerica
Dave Chappelle’s Block Party
Romance and Cigarettes
The Squid and the Whale
