September 2, 2008 - Independent Film Week, the oldest forum in the US for the discovery of new projects in development, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Hosted by IFP, Independent Film Week, formerly known as IFP Market, is dedicated to discovering, showcasing, and supporting new independent film projects and talent.
The six-day event consists of the Independent Filmmaker Conference, free screenings of films by IFP alumni and emerging short filmmakers, and the Project Forum, a showcase for over 150 works-in-progress.
This year also marks the launch of NextGenNYC, a new program for New York City’s promising filmmakers. Created by IFP and the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, this initiative grants access for graduating film and digital media students from the City’s universities to the events of Independent Film Week. Ten finalists will have their films screened throughout the week.
IFP represents a network of 10,000 filmmakers in New York City and around the world. Through its workshops, seminars, conferences, mentorships, and Filmmaker Magazine, IFP schools its members in the art, technology, and business of independent filmmaking.
