September 1, 2005 – This July, American Express shot a commercial campaign in New York City with tennis star Andy Roddick, entitled “Have You Seen Andy’s Mojo?". The commercial features Andy’s alter ego enjoying a night on the town in New York City before his big game, and filmed at locations including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Barney’s, Florence Gould Hall, the restaurant Matsuri, night club scenes at Blue Note and Kush, and the streets of the West Village and Upper East Side. On July 19, the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting worked with the Department of Transportation to accommodate a scene in which 200 extras walked across the Brooklyn Bridge.
“New York City is the perfect place [for this commercial],” Judy Tenzer, a spokesperson for American Express said. “American Express is headquartered here in New York, the US Open is a New York institution, and in this ad, we were showcasing New York institutions. We found the perfect place to film right in our own backyard.”
The commercial hit the air on August 25, with a second spot launching after the US Open begins. Click here to watch the spot and for more on the Mojo campaign.
