NYC: comedy empire

New York City racked up 61 nominations for Primetime Emmy Awards this year, with 26 of the nominations going to HBO's "Sex and the City" and the "Sopranos."

This year's nominations rate the City as the ideal place to produce a quality comedy series. Four of the 5 nominations for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series went to the New York shows "Saturday Night Live," "Late Show with David Letterman," "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and "Late Night With Conan O'Brien."

The nominations also reflect the City's ability to inspire writers for drama and comedy series. The writers for these shows also swept the category of Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program, and three of the five nominations for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series were captured by "The Sopranos."

Below is a complete list of Emmy nominations for New York shows. The presentation for the 55th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on Sunday, September 21 and will be televised by the FOX Television Network.
