Broadway Heats Up This Summer

August 3, 2009 - There are plenty of entertainment choices on stage this summer throughout the City.

Burn the Floor is currently heating things up at the Longacre Theatre. A cast of 18 award-winning international dancers infuse ballroom dancing with tango, samba, quickstep and swing for this limited engagement.

A few Broadway shows will soon reach the end of their runs. The Little Mermaid will swim away from the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on August 30 while two queens will battle for the final time when Mary Stuart concludes its run at the Broadhurst Theatre on August 16. On September 6, 9 to 5 will sing its rousing anthem one last time at the Marquis Theatre.

In other theatre news, the Tony Award-winning musical Passage Strange will be screened in theatres beginning on August 21. Directed by Spike Lee for the screen, the musical will also appear on PBS as part of “Great Performances” in 2010.
