Former and current castmembers of "One Life to Live" pose with a street sign presented by the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting
August 1, 2007 - On Friday, August 17, ABC’s “One Life to Live” will reach a historic milestone: the airing of its 10,000th episode.
Since its premiere in 1968, “One Life to Live” has been relentless in its exploration of dynamic social issues. In the nearly forty years of continuous production in New York, “One Life to Live” has earned 35 Daytime Emmys.
“10,000 shows is a remarkable achievement,” said executive producer Frank Valentini, who started at “One Life to Live” in 1985 with episode 4,209. “I am extremely proud to be part of a show that has been able to make such an enduring mark on popular culture.”
The show continues to break new ground. Most recently, four episodes entitled “Prom Night: the Musical” blended the high drama of daytime television with an original score as well as musical and dance performances by cast members. In a unique outreach to the show’s loyal audience, there will be a reference to the number 10,000 in every episode from July 30th until August 10th.
On Tuesday, July 3, the NYC Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting (MOFTB) paid tribute to the show’s accomplishments. Representatives from MOFTB joined the cast and crew of “One Life to Live” for an on-set celebration, and presented Frank Valentini with a commemorative sign, “One Life to Live Way.”
“’One Life to Live’ is a cornerstone of our daytime television community” stated Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, “the show represents a large portion of the 100,000 New Yorkers who work in entertainment production and generate $5 billion for our economy annually. Congratulations to everyone who makes this show a true testament to the remarkable talent in New York, and we thank you for continuing to make New York City the entertainment capital of the world.”
Tune in to the 10,000th episode of ABC’s “One Life to Live” (2:00 p.m., ET ) on Friday, August 17th!
