August 1, 2007 - In the latest season of original programming on NYC-TV, the show "Backdrop NYC" celebrates the creative energies of New Yorkers. "Backdrop NYC" invites short film submissions from all New York filmmakers, and then features a selection of New York shorts each episode. Demonstrating the depth and breadth of New York’s film community, the shorts range in style from animation to live action to documentary.
“We look for films that celebrate New York City and are able to weave the city in as an actual character,” explained executive producer Trevor Scotland. “Most of the filmmakers we feature have a real affinity for the city and it shows in their work. From location selection to framing of shots, they make a discernible effort to engage the city in the storytelling process.”
To introduce each week’s short films, host Cat Greenleaf travels with a featured filmmaker to a different spot throughout the five boroughs, including the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, the Long Island Children’s Museum and the Manhattan nightclub BED NYC. On location the filmmakers offer a “behind the scenes” look at the creative process as they discuss with Cat the craft of making a movie. In their conversations with Cat, the filmmakers explore the richness of New York life inspires and guides their work.
