NYC Productions are Stuff of Legends

Sidney Lumet directs Before the Devil Knows You're Dead on location in NYC

August 1, 2006 - Legends will soon be made in New York City! The upcoming film I am Legend, in which Will Smith stars as the last man left after fictional mutants overtake the City, will soon begin production here in Gotham. The large-scale film will use three armories, three soundstages at Steiner Studios and numerous locations across the City. It will employ some 300 crew members and thousands of actors, and purchase tens of millions of dollars worth of services in the five boroughs.

“While shooting in the Bronx, we plan to use local Bronx suppliers and invite film students on set to the Kingsbridge Armory," Location Manager Paul Kramer said. "We are thrilled to be shooting on location in New York, and employing many members of our local film industry.”

Also coming to a location near you is American Gangster, starring Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington, which tells the story of a drug operation in 1970's Harlem. The film will be dressing streets in Harlem, Brooklyn and the Bronx for the period scenes.

Currently shooting in New York is Sidney Lumet's Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, starring Ethan Hawke, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Marisa Tomei. The film tells the story of the aftermath of two brothers' attempt to rob a jewelry store owned by their parents.
