NYC is Prime Location

August 1, 2004 - Producers have chosen New York City as the set of “Prime,” a love story about an Upper East Side woman and a younger man from Brooklyn. Starring Sandra Bullock and Academy-Award winner Meryl Streep, the Universal production will be filming in New York City for 40 days beginning next month.

Also choosing New York City as a prime location is director Michael Hoffman, who is shooting “Game 6”, starring Michael Keaton and Robert Downey, Jr. The film follows a playwright on the day of the legendary game six of the 1986 World Series between the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox, and is scheduled to shoot through August 11.

Speaking of friendly competition, the film “Tanner on Tanner” focuses on a fictional candidate for U.S. President. Shot in New York City last month, the film is an update of Robert Altman’s 1988 film “Tanner 88.” The movie stars Michael Murphy and Cynthia Nixon. Cameo appearances include Robert Redford, Mario Cuomo, Martin Scorsese, Madeline Albright, Harry Belafonte, Rev. Al Sharpton, Carl Bernstein, Al Franken and Ronald Reagan’s son Ron Reagan. “Tanner on Tanner” will premiere on the Sundance channel as a three-part series beginning on October 5.

And as if love, baseball and politics weren’t enough for New York City, Jim Jarmusch has more in store for us, with an untitled project starring Bill Murray scheduled to begin 35 days of production in Gotham next month.

Stay tuned to the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting for more news on the City’s sets!
