July 1, 2009 - On the eve of the film’s release, a special screening of The Taking of Pelham 123 was held at the AMC Empire 25 on 42nd Street for the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting and the Tribeca Cinema Series.

The film’s star Denzel Washington along with its director Tony Scott and producer Steve Tisch, Tribeca Enterprises senior vice president Patti Newberger, and Commissioner Katherine Oliver were on hand to welcome the crowd.

Commissioner Oliver thanked Sony Pictures Entertainment for making the screening possible and noted that The Taking of Pelham 123 was one of the largest films ever to shoot in New York City.

“The film employed hundreds of New Yorkers during its four months filming all over the city in the Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn,” said Commissioner Oliver. “And it’s thanks to many of the people here tonight from various city agencies who helped make all this possible including: members of the NYPD Movie/TV Unit, the Traffic Enforcement Unit at the PD, DOT, Department of Bridges, FDNY, and most especially the MTA.”

The Taking of Pelham 123 is currently in theatres.
