July 17, 2008 - The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, working with the Department of Small Business Services, yesterday released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the program design and administration services of a pilot production and training program. The MOFTB is seeking an appropriately qualified organization to create a program to help women, veterans, people of color and economically disadvantaged New Yorkers who are interested in the entertainment production industry, to gain the skills needed to succeed at a specific craft and, ultimately, gain memberships in craft unions and opportunities to become upwardly mobile in the industry.
This initiative was created as a direct result of recommendations made by the Mayor’s Task Force on Diversity in Film & Television Production in New York City. The Task Force was commissioned to explore initiatives and opportunities that would help to diversify employment in the City’s production industry.
