Heat, Humidity, and SPF - Summer Staples Return to NYC

July 1, 2007 - The Summer Play Festival is returning in its fourth incarnation from July 10th through August 5th to New York City. Sixteen full-length plays by some of theatre’s most exciting playwrights will be presented during SPF at the Theatre Row complex just off Times Square in New York City.

SPF was founded in 2004 by Arielle Tepper, one of Broadway’s most reknowned producers, with the goal of introducing talented playwrights and their plays to the industry and audiences. The featured plays in 2007 represent sixteen exceptionally talented and engaging writers, selected from over 1100 submissions by a panel of highly regarded theatre professionals from the United States and the United Kingdom.

SPF has been a great jump start for the careers of young playwrights. Many of the festival’s past writers have enjoyed regional and Off-Broadway productions. Others are now developing projects with film and television companies. Additionally, SPF will offer, once again, its residency program with the award-winning Donmar Warehouse in London.

Unique to SPF, all rights remain available through the duration of the festival. Neither the festival nor their producing teams hold any rights to the plays, including right of first refusal or subsidiary rights. All sixteen artistic teams are provided with the financial and administrative resources to produce the work for the general public, at absolutely no cost to them.
