Student honorees, sponsors and others pose for a photo under the Clearview Cinemas marquee
July 1, 2007 - New York’s entertainment production community contains some of the most skilled and dedicated professionals in the industry. It is paramount that the industry continues to retain and develop talent; for these reasons, the Bronx Community College held its 14th annual Bronx Community College Film & Video Festival.
The festival took place on Tuesday, June 12th, at Cablevision’s Clearview 1st Avenue Cinema in Manhattan. Students, who are members of the BCC Film & Media Technology Clubs as well as the Media Technology Program of the Communications Arts and Science Department, saw their names in lights on the theater’s marquee.
Students were eligible to win prizes, including the 2007 Eastman Kodak Student Filmmaker Award, which were presented by Steve Garfinkel, Kodak’s Regional Account Manager for U.S. East Coast Feature Films. The winners were:
1st Prize, $800: “Legends of the Spirit Sword,” directed by Jamal Johns
2nd Prize, $600: “The Mirror of Life,” directed by Michelle Cruz
3rd Prize, $400: “Dead End,” directed by Chadney Pizarro
4th Prize, $200: “Felix Story,” directed by Felix Pina
1st Prize winner Jamal Johns also won the $500 Avid Technology Award, along with classmate Felipe Silvestre. The award was presented to Media Technology students for excellence in Television Non-Linear Editing.
Production executives from the Eastman Kodak Company, Cablevision’s Clearview Cinema, Avid Technology, The Independent Film Channel, the A&E Network, HBO, and many other companies were on hand to screen and present the awards. The June 12th Clearview Cinema screening was by invitation only; a larger film festival with screenings open to the public will take place during the fall 2007 semester.
