July 1, 2006 - A commercial shot for Bacardi by Hungry Man Productions in April and May features two men in salmon costumes, making their way against the flow of runners in a marathon to get to the bar for their drink. To re-create the marathon, the production used some 400 extras at locations including Fifth Avenue at 26th Street, Wall Street and on the FDR Drive. For production, the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting (MOFTB) worked with the police department to re-route traffic on the FDR Drive between South Street and the Brooklyn Bridge, and on the roadway of the Verrazano Bridge. The production also shot at Fort Wadsworth Park on Staten Island.
Location Manager Anne Kuronyi describes the production of the commercial as “one of the best film experiences that a lot of us have ever had.” Location Manager Kevin Breslin reports, “the MOFTB was integral in facilitating this production, and in particular in making it all happen so smoothly.”
Kuronyi said that it was a priority for the ad agency to shoot this commercial in New York. “The agency wanted the Marathon and they wanted the Verrazano bridge. This couldn't have shot anywhere else.”
