June 1, 2007 - The Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting's June marketing campaign is promoting a variety of PSA’s on bus shelters throughout the city to send the message that movie piracy harms the local economy, kills jobs and impacts all New Yorkers.
The PSAs, which are part of a multi-agency anti-piracy campaign, first went up on in May. The advertisements use the universally recognizable look and feel of Motion Picture Association of America’s iconic ratings system.
Each advertisement features the slogan of “Get the Real Picture: Don’t Buy Illegal DVDs Off The Street.” They also underscore the losing proposition of purchasing bootlegged DVDs with mock ratings of “RO” for Ripped-Off, “PS” for Poor Sound, “SP” for Stupid Purchase, “OV” for Obstructed View and “F” for Fake.
The June marketing campaign is also promoting the “Made in NY” television productions of “Rescue Me” Season 4 on the FX network, “Rescue Me” Season 3 on DVD and the upcoming Summer Play Festival.
The co-branded bus shelter advertisements are part of the “Made in NY” incentive program’s marketing credit, which leverages the City’s assets to provide free advertising on bus shelters throughout the five boroughs to qualifying productions.
