A scene from Ferry Tales.
June 1, 2006 - Beginning today, the Staten Island Film Festival will shine a spotlight on the borough as a destination for film production and release. Developed by the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation, the four-day festival will include numerous films shot in New York City, including the Academy Award-nominated Ferry Tales, about women who ride the Staten Island Ferry, and Staten Island Catapult, which focuses on a commuter who attempts to build a catapult that launches people from Staten Island to Manhattan in five minutes.
In recent years, as the “Made in NY” incentive program has attracted films set in other locations to shoot in New York City, Staten Island has been used as a double for numerous locations. The borough recently played Ohio in the upcoming feature film Fast Track and has also been cast in films such as Kinsey, Little Manhattan, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, The School of Rock, Into the Fire, The Best Thief in the World, and The Education of Max Bickford.
