new local 52 agreement

Good news! Local 52 Studio Mechanics of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees has recently ratified an agreement with television and feature production companies that seeks to attract more new production to the City, while benefiting other unions and the film community in general. According to George DeTitta, conditions of the merger will be worked out this year. The agreement will take effect January 2004, and run through May 15, 2006.

The key highlight of this agreement is that the Pension, Health and Welfare and Annuity Funds of Local 52 will merge with the IATSE West Coast funds. As a result, producers will pay substantially less in contributions for those benefits, and Local 52 members will receive a comparable benefits package.

The agreement is a positive enhancement to New York's package of incentives, and a welcome new development.
