Statement Regarding Monday, May 4th's Accident Involving 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice'

May 7, 2009 - The following is a statement from the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting:

"In the early morning of May 4, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice was filming a driving sequence on 7th Ave. There were six officers and a supervisor from the NYPD Movie/TV Unit on site for safety as well as sixteen uniformed traffic agents. The night’s filming comprised of a simple driving sequence where a car moves from one lane to another and back again. After eight successful takes, an accident occurred. In the more than forty year history of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, this is the first accident of its type involving a driving scene. Tomorrow, we are having an additional safety meeting with the production team, and we will continue to review all safety procedures moving forward."
