May 1, 2009 - In an effort to thank the local community for hosting the production of the “Made in NY” film Fighting during the fall of 2007, the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, in conjunction with Rogue Pictures, presented a special screening of the film at the Clearview Chelsea Cinemas last month.
The screening was the latest initiative from the MOFTB to reach out to the community as a sign of appreciation for supporting production in their neighborhoods. Recently the MOFTB also launched a PSA campaign entitled “Reel Jobs. Reel Proud. Real New Yorkers.” which aims to educate the community about local residents who are employed by the film and television industry here in the City.
Included in the audience of the screening were representatives from the Flatiron BID, City Council Speaker’s Office, Robert Fulton Houses, NYCHA, the local community board, and members of the crew. The production used many locations throughout Chelsea during the shoot, including the Robert Fulton Houses.
Directed by New York native and Sundance Directing Award winner Dito Montiel, Fighting stars Channing Tatum and Terrence Howard. Fighting was released in theatres Friday, April 24.
