The Fifth Month of 2007 Brings Five

By Kwame Patterson
May 1, 2007 - The Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting's May bus shelter campaign promoted the feature films The Ex and The Treatment, the documentary ShowBusiness, the television show “Viva Voz” and advertisements for the 20th Annual Columbia University Film Festival.

In the comedy The Ex, opening May 11, Tim Reilly (Zach Braff) battles with an old associate of his wife, while juggling a new job, a new city and an newborn child.

The Treatment, last year’s Tribeca Film Festival winner of the Best Made in New York Narrative Feature Award opens in the New York on Friday, May 4. The story follows Jake Singer, (Chris Eigeman) who, left with few emotional outlets, embarks on an emotional rollercoaster ride through therapy with a Freudian-like doctor and a romance with a Manhattan socialite.

ShowBusiness is documentary that follows the four high-profile productions that would eventually become Tony nominees for Best Musical: a big-noise musical named "Wicked," the Rosie O'Donnell/Boy George collaboration, "Taboo," the much-anticipated Tony Kushner musical, "Caroline, or Change," and an irreverent puppet show named "Avenue Q." “Viva Voz,” a nightly interview program on the new Spanish network V-me, airs weeknights at 10 p.m. on cable on Time Warner NY Channel 812, Cablevision Channel 199, Comcast NJ Channel 242 and digital channel 13-3.

Meanwhile, the Columbia University Film Festival began April 30 and will run through May 10.
