May 1, 2006 - On April 3, “As the World Turns” celebrated its 50th anniversary of shooting in New York City. To commemorate the event, Julianne Cho, Assistant Commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, presented a Mayoral proclamation declaring April 3 as “As the World Turns Day” in the City of New York, during a celebration attended by cast and crew.
“When 'As The World Turns' began production in New York, our great City became home to the country's first half-hour daytime serial,” the proclamation declared. “Fifty years and 42 Emmy awards later, the show continues to make history in our great City … As one of four soap operas and more than 100 television shows which shoot in New York City, the Brooklyn-based production contributes to an industry which employs some 100,000 New Yorkers and contributes $5 billion to our local economy on an annual basis.”
The Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting salutes the show on this incredible milestone!
