April 8, 2005 – The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting’s (MOFTB) April marketing campaign marketed the Tribeca Film Festival and The Interpreter!
The Interpreter, which released in theatres on April 22, stars Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn, and tells the story of a United Nations interpreter who overhears an assassination plot. The film shot exclusively in New York City for 16 weeks last year after Commissioner Katherine Oliver and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg liaised with labor and with Secretary General Kofi Annan to help it become the first in history to shoot inside the United Nations. The co-branded bus shelter advertisements are part of the “Made in NY” incentive program’s marketing credit, which leverages the City’s assets to provide free advertising on bus shelters throughout the five boroughs to qualifying productions. The MOFTB also supported the Tribeca Film Festival, which last year drew nearly 400,000 attendees and had an estimated $72 million economic impact on New York City. This year, the MOFTB had an expanded presence at the festival: the office hosted a producers reception and sponsored the “Made in NY” award in the “NY, NY” narrative category. More than 35 films shot in New York City were presented at this year’s festival. Click here for more information.
