April 1, 2008 - The first Made in the Bronx Film Festival, in honor of Bronx Community College’s 50th Anniversary, will take place from May 2nd - May 9th, in Schwendler Auditorium on the campus of Bronx Community College.
Films chosen for the first Made in the Bronx Film Festival focus on the Bronx community. “The festival will focus on the community and celebrates its diversity, uniqueness, and richness,” said Prof. Jeffrey Wisotsky, Festival Director and Director of the Media Technology Program.
Set in the Bronx, the feature films selected for the festival include: Marty, The Wanderers, Wild Style, I Like It Like That, and A Bronx Tale. “We are proud that BCC actually offers programs for budding videographers and filmmakers,” said Dr. Debra Gonsher, Chair of the Communication Arts and Sciences Department.
The Communication Arts and Sciences Department, with two unique programs, offers motivated students an opportunity to enjoy the support of a small caring environment in their quest to learn about film and television. The Media Technology Program, taught by experienced professionals who hold positions in all fields of media production, provides practical hands-on skills with real applications in media. The Media Studies Option of the Liberal Arts and Sciences Program offers those students who wish to become directors, producers, and screenwriters, an opportunity to study film, while providing opportunities for students to direct their own media project. The Communication Arts and Sciences Department maintains state-of-the-art facilities to prepare students to enter the world of media production.
